How to Complete a File Search

The Utah Division of State History collects archaeological site files and reports for the State of Utah in accordance with Utah Code 9-8-304.   If your archaeological project requires an archaeological literature search as part of NHPA Section 106 compliance, State History's Antiquities Section can facilitate a search of the records.

Archaeological records are protected by state and federal law and can only be accessed by qualified archaeological personnel.

Use of the records is by appointment only and can be arranged by contacting Arie Leeflang or Deb Miller.  All appointment slots may be filled a week or more in advance.  Please plan accordingly.

Attention Consultants! We will be closed Feb 25th - March 1st for maintenance. Please schedule your file searches accordingly!

The statewide archaeological data is stored in both paper and digital formats.  All archaeological site forms and reports are in a paper format, which necessitates an on-site visit.  Due to lack of personnel and funding, Antiquities staff are unable to perform literature searches.

If a search of our GIS database is requested, location information (legal description, shapefile, or map) must be provided a minimum of two business days in advance of appointment.  Unfortunately, we are unable to provide shapefiles of our archaeological data.
